he agricultural decarbonization program, which Ukrainian farmers have also joined, started in 2020. Today, the carbon credit market operates, allowing program participants to sell credits and companies that need emissions allowances to purchase them.
Global Carbon Credit Program
Carbon credit buyers
A carbon credit buyer can be any company that aims to reduce its environmental footprint.
These may include:
- Large technology companies pursuing carbon neutrality
- Industrial companies that exceed emissions limits
- Air and maritime carriers seeking to reduce fuel-related taxes
- Other companies and funds that invest in sustainable environmental development on a voluntary basis

Verra certification body
Verra is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 that sets leading global standards for tackling climate change and advancing sustainable development. One area of Verra’s work is developing standards to improve agricultural practices.
As of 2024, Verra is the largest certification body, setting requirements for program partners and issuing carbon credits.
Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)
Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is Verra’s emissions crediting program that finances initiatives to reduce carbon footprints and remove carbon from the atmosphere. Since its launch, VCS has reached the milestone of 1 billion tons—this is how much CO₂ and other emissions have been removed or reduced. In practice, the program focuses on creating, verifying, and issuing carbon credits for farms that generate them.
Support for global initiatives
Every participant and partner of the “Carbon Program” is part of a global effort to reduce CO₂ emissions and adapt to climate change. Ukraine has also joined the EU initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, so any farmer can become a program participant by completing the required certification. Our partner is someone who also helps achieve these global goals.
Specifically:
- Limiting the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C;
- Increasing the ability to adapt to climate change;
- Implementing modern mechanisms for reducing and absorbing emissions;
- Achieving carbon neutrality in agricultural production.
As a participant of the “Carbon Program,” you directly support Ukraine’s European integration course by promoting decarbonization—specifically, the commitment not to exceed 60% of 1990 greenhouse gas emission levels by 2030.
