Frequently asked questions
01. Why is regenerative agriculture beneficial for soil?
Intensive agriculture leads to rapid biological and physical degradation of fertile soils, so soil-conserving practices come to the forefront. They can improve land conditions—fertility and structure—making the soil more resilient to droughts and floods and better at absorbing carbon.
02. What is CO₂ removal?
CO₂ removal, or emissions removal, is the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it. In agriculture, CO₂ is stored in the soil in the form of soil organic carbon.
03.What happens after joining the carbon program?
After registration, a farmer must decide which field(s) will be used to implement regenerative practices. The participant uploads key data and tasks—such as crop rotation and fuel/fertilizer use—into dedicated software. CARBONEX verifies the information and determines carbon removal, after which carbon credits can be generated.
04.What is a carbon credit?
A carbon credit is a financial instrument representing one metric ton of reduced carbon dioxide emissions or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases. It allows businesses to offset their emissions by purchasing credits from companies that reduce greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
05.How can I earn from carbon credits?
As a participant in the Carbon Program, you can sell credits on specialized markets or through agreements with businesses that want to offset their emissions. However, CARBONEX will handle the process for you so you can stay focused on your day-to-day operations.
06. At what price can carbon credits be sold?
Carbon credit prices may vary depending on market supply and demand. For 2024–2025, experts estimate the average price at USD 30–35 per credit. Prices tend to rise each year due to increasing climate risks and stricter measures on greenhouse gas emissions.
07.When will a participant receive payment?
Rewards for implementing regenerative practices are distributed after carbon credits are sold. One project cycle takes approximately one year from the submission of initial data, which occurs in March–May each year.
08.Can I receive funds earlier?
CARBONEX is currently working in this direction by negotiating with banks and international institutions to enable the purchase of rights to future carbon credits through buying investment rights in regenerative improvements. Once this option becomes available, we will personally inform every program participant.
09.What is needed to create a carbon credit?
CO₂ removal can be achieved by implementing sustainable agricultural practices. This may include growing cover crops that protect soil from wind and water erosion, reducing tillage, and diversifying crop rotations. These measures increase carbon removal from the atmosphere and reduce farm emissions.
10.Who can be a carbon program organizer?
A program organizer (Project Proponent) can only be a company accredited by the Verra certification body. Currently, CARBONEX Ukraine LLC (Verra registration number: 8241) is the only Ukrainian company accredited to implement projects in the ALM (Agricultural Land Management) sector.
11.Do I need to change all my farming practices to participate in the program?
No, not necessarily. You can start by implementing regenerative practices on one or several fields. The program allows you to expand these methods gradually depending on your capabilities and needs.
12.How often do I need to test soil within the program?
Most measurements are performed using specialized biogeochemical models. However, a soil analysis is conducted at the start of participation to establish so-called “baselines.” Afterwards, soil testing is done once every five years, including sampling to determine soil organic carbon and other key indicators. This helps track the impact of regenerative practices. CARBONEX also reserves the right to conduct additional carbon-content tests to calibrate data and track previous results.
13.Do I need special knowledge or equipment to participate?
No. Participation does not require special knowledge or complex equipment. Participants receive access to CARBONEX software that helps track crop rotations, fertilizer and fuel use, and other important indicators. Our experts are always ready to provide консультації and support.
14.How can I track my progress in the program?
CARBONEX provides access to an online platform where you can view your data, including soil analysis results, the number of generated carbon credits, and other performance indicators. The platform is updated regularly so you can stay informed about your farm’s progress.
15.What are the registration requirements for the program?
To register, you need to provide information about your farm, including field size and location, crop types, and current farming practices. CARBONEX will then help you пройти all registration steps and join the program.
16.Is the program available to small farms?
Yes. The program is open to farms of any size. Regardless of your scale, you can benefit from adopting regenerative practices and earning carbon credits.
17.Can I receive additional financial incentives or grants to participate?
CARBONEX collaborates with various international and local organizations to provide financial support to participants. You can learn more about grant opportunities and other incentives by contacting our support team.
18.What happens if I can’t maintain regenerative practices due to adverse weather conditions?
If adverse weather conditions prevent you from maintaining regenerative practices, CARBONEX will work with you to adapt your management plan to minimize the impact on carbon removal and support the stability of your farm.
19.How does implementing regenerative practices affect yields?
Research shows that regenerative practices can improve soil structure, fertility, and water-holding capacity, which can increase yields in the long term. However, the first years may require adaptation, and noticeable changes in yields may appear only after several seasons.
20.Can I leave the program if my circumstances change?
Yes. You can leave the program at any time by providing written notice. However, keep in mind that ending participation may affect carbon credit generation and your ability to receive financial payouts.
